Inside of art: you are invited
Inside of art is a project that allows you to see what is usually hidden from the public eye: the anatomy of a masterpiece. The name tells no lies: at the exhibition celebrating the 120th anniversary of the first x-ray image you can literally see the inside of the pieces by looking at the x-rays of the masterpieces of French post impressionism.
X-ray images of such paintings as Portrait of the Actress Jeanne Samary by Auguste Renoir, Are You Jealous? by Paul Gauguin, Red Vineyard at Arles and Portrait of Doctor Rey by Vincent van Gogh are available at the exhibition. Side by side with the French post impressionists there are projects of young contemporary artists contemplating on the idea of connection between art and technology.
"The concept of the exhibition grew out if the idea of making a project using x-rays of the pieces from out collection, because the Pushkin State is, among other things, one of the biggest conservation centres", says Euenia Kiseleva, the head of the Department of Marketing and PR of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. "A routine technological process of radiographic examination of paintings and sculptures is usually hidden behind the scenes, the public is not aware of it. Unique images exhibited here will uncover some secrets of creative ideas and artistic process; it is almost as interesting as the finished works themselves".
