Rivera's Gloriosa Victoria in Manege
A retrospective Viva la Vida. Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Paintings and drawings from museums and private collections will open on the 20th of December at Moscow Manege.
More than 90 works of the two artists will be exhibited. One of the main pieces, Gloriosa Victoria by Diego Rivera, comes from the collection of the Pushkin State Museum.
Transporting and exhibiting such large painting - its size is 260x450cm - is not an easy task for art conservators. Because of its considerable size, it had been stored in a roll. After unpacking, the piece was stretched on a specially made frame in such a way, that both its sides are visible: Diego Rivera's unnamed unfinished work can be seen on the back side of the painting.
The plot of Gloriosa Victoria was inspired by the tragic events of 1954 when the American army entered Guatemala. It will be the first time when the painting is exhibited in Russia.
The exhibition Viva la Vida. Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Paintings and drawings from museums and private collections will be held from 21 December 2018 till 12 March 2019 in Moscow Manege.
