The Pushkin State Museum and University of Trento to Collaborate on the Donatello Project
The University of Trento is joining the Pushkin State Museum in the project "Donatello and other Renaissance masters: research and conservation", which includes 57 artworks of marble, ceramics and bronze seriously damaged during the explosions and fire in the bunker Friedrichshain Park in the last days of World War II.
The pieces chosen for the project have various and heavy damages which require a comprehensive approach and thorough research by experts in various fields of conservation. The “Donatello” project, as the museum specialists call it, has international significance: among the pieces to be conserved are works by such renowned Renaissance masters as Donatello, Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, Mino da Fiesole, and Andrea del Verrocchio.
Having specialists from the University of Trento on board will significantly reinforce the academic contribution to the project, as well as open opportunities for international cultural and academic exchange. The first result of this collaboration will be the opening of the Italian version of the project’s webpage in August of this year.
