Heinrich Schliemann documentary in the making

To mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Heinrich Schliemann (1822-1890), ZDF is preparing a documentary about him. A working meeting took place on 11 November 2021 between Deputy Director of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts Ilya Doronchenkov and Director of the Berlin Museum of Prehistory and Early History, Matthias Wemhoff.

Schliemann became famous for his archaeological research on Hissarlik Hill, where the legendary Troy was believed to have been located. The research took place in 1870 - 1873, 1878 - 1879, 1882 - 1884 and 1888 - 1890. In 1874, Schliemann published his famous book "Trojan Antiquities" ("Trojanische Alterthümer") on the excavations of the ancient city, which had an archaeological atlas.

Bilateral cooperation and joint plans for exhibitions, research and conservation were discussed. Despite the current difficulties due to covid restrictions, it was agreed to step up contacts between specialists from the two museums in order to prepare projects together in 2022.
