The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the GosNIIR are to study and conserve art objects together

On 2 December 2021, Marina Loshak, Director of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and Dmitry Antonov, Director of the State Research Institute of Restoration, signed a collaboration agreement. The specialists from the two institutions will work together to improve methods for physical and chemical analyses and technological research, as well as methods for the conservation and restoration of museum objects.

In 2024, the Department of Conservation of the Pushkin Museum will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Throughout its existence, the department has employed several generations of outstanding conservators who laid the foundations and traditions of the museum's conservation school.

Cooperation between conservators of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and specialists from the State Research Institute for Restoration has a history of over half a century. Over this time several thousand objects have been studied and restored together and later exhibited at numerous exhibitions in Russia and abroad. At present specialists from the GosNIIR are actively involved in a project to study and reconstruct the monumental paintings of Erebuni from the 8th-4th centuries BC, as well as in the research and conservation of Vincent Van Gogh's painting "Red Vineyards in Arles". Specialists from both organisations are regularly involved in scientific workshops and conferences. Joint projects to study and conserve a number of archaeological collections held at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the Restoration Institute will be prepared in the near future.
